So, I received the phone on Thursday. Well packaged, as expected, yada, yada, yada. Motorola website advertises that this phone is compatible with Verizons network. For three days I "chatted" with reps in an effort to have full functionality of my $400+ device. Every effort save one was cut off while working to fully enable service. The problem? I could make and receive calls just fine. I could send texts. However I could NOT receive texts. I tried "Googling that s**t", contacting Motorola and browsing their forums, contacting Verizon about making sure my account was switched to CDMA-less. On the third day of "chatting" the one rep I did not get cut off from directed me to their IMEI compatibility checker site. My device was not compatible. Many hours of my life wasted. I went to AT&T and 5 minutes online with no rep and I am fully connected. For those on Verizon, look at other phones, other carriers, or wait until Verizon and Motorola work out the kinks.
This device states it's unlocked and works on verizon plans, however it will not work on prepaid plans. This information should be made available to people so they don't buy this phone in error like I did.
I personally don't like to pay $700 - $1000 on a phone. It was time to upgrade to 5g and I looked at a number of phones in the $300 - $500 range and decided on the Motorola One 5g Ace (released January 2021). I've had the phone only for a few days, but I can already tell that I made a good decision. It arrived with Android 10 and will upgrade to 11 soon. Beyond that, honestly I don't know. The camera is very good and the OS is clean and unbloated. With a great processor and 6 Gb of RAM, everything just works like it should. Having 128 Gb of on board storage and the ability to use up to a 1Tb SD card, I don't have to worry about filling up my phone. Yes, the body is plastic... don't care; it looks great. I have to use a cable to charge it... no problem. It's got a huge battery, so the Ace doesn't need to charge very often. This phone also has an earphone jack, just in case you forget your bluetooth buds. So, I can't say that YOU will love it or hate it, but this phone is highly recommended by me if you're shopping in the midrange category. Check out the specs for yourself.
