User reviews
Honestly, the reviews for this Bose 5 soundbar tell most of the story. At $250 it is overpriced from the chain stores. I was lucky enough to nab this factory refurbished one direct from Bose for only $99 on Bose's eBay store. To start on a good note, the sound is rich and full as to be expected from a Bose product. The Dialog Mode function is great for TV shows as well as movies and the bass is quite powerful for such a small unit. I mean really, this soundbar has 2 about 1 5\8" speakers inside. It was extremely simple to set up, place the unit, plug in power, plug in the included optical cable to your tv and turn on. BUT, to move on to the bad notes, it isn't very loud. I mean it's just not very loud at all. If I would have bought this from the store for $250, I would have returned it immediately after reaching max volume the first time. The remote didn't function well with my TV, which really isn't important to me. Overall, I enjoy the product for its size, simplicity and it's sound quality. It leaves a lot to be desired in terms if volume, but there are larger, more feature packed products that all are more expensive. This is Bose Quality that is several steps above bad TV speakers. Good TV speakers are about on level with this soundbar though. If you want booming bass and immersive sound, buy a 5.1 surround system. 3.1 will always leave you wanting more. DO NOT BUY A SOUNDBAR expecting 5.1 performance as some of the reviewers of this product did, but if you're looking for Bose quality sound in a small, easy to set up package for your smaller bedroom TV, like I was, this is a good deal at only $99.
Let me start by stating that I am a HUGE fan and advocate of everything Bose and I own many of their products, which include; Soundlink, Accoustamass, L1 system with Tonematch and B2 subwoofer and finally, in-ear headphones. That being said, I purchased this Solo 15 with expectations of setting it up, which was very easy and being blown away. However, after a few days of break-in time, it did sound "Okay", which as I stated earlier in the title of this review, a disappointment. Long story short; I ended up returning the Solo15 with great disappointment, for the Klipsch model SB120, which is a larger unit, with better sound and all in all a better value.
Good overall rich sound compared to TV speakers, better sound quality when viewing shows via the smart tv's internet programs...ie...Netflix, Amazon...as I have a Samsung smart 4K UHTV, and evidently, it only allows surround sound broadcast via the Internet channels, not cable channels which TV only uses a different signal processing even though it is fiber connected..didn't know this until I was trying to change settings on TV, and found selections grayed out...and did some research..evidently Sony and Vizio broadcast surround sound as a standard selection but other brands only allow it when viewing internet shows....anyway, the Bose system is a sound base....as they advertise, it is not a simulated surround sound system with deep base, but it does add clarity and vibrancey to the TV sound...much better than TV speaker..so it is a good system.
